Scott Niedermayer will retire.

That's the speculation of both E.J. Hradek and Don LaGreca after having spoken with Scott on NHL Live this morning. Keep in mind that Scott, unlike previous years, is now working in the media. He's on ESPN as a hockey analyst, he's blogging for the LA Times and both of those could be interpreted as things he's doing to start the next phase of his life and to make sure that he has work after hockey. E.J. & Don said they think Scott will retire, admitting it was pure speculation, and that he is waiting for the Finals to be completed so as to not steal the spotlight in any way from the Flyers and Blackhawks. They referenced the year that Patrick Roy retired during the Finals and how much flak he caught over that decision.

So, take it for what it's worth. According to two NHL media members who have spoken with Scott Niedermayer directly he is going to retire.
